LaTonya Yvette is a Brooklyn-born writer and multimedia storyteller whose work began with LY, her eponymous, award-winning blog, in 2012. For a decade, she used the platform to examine the architecture of identity, style, and family, moving between writing, photography, and cultural storytelling. She closed the publication in 2022, but the questions at its center continue to shape her work.
She has authored three books: Woman of Color (Abrams, 2019), The Hair Book (Union Square, 2022), and Stand In My Window(Dial Press/Penguin Random House, 2024). Her books are held in the Library of Congress and major academic collections. Woman of Color was one of 50 books installed as part of Jay-Z’s Book of HOV exhibition at the Brooklyn Public Library. Her work has been featured in The New Yorker, and Publishers Weekly wrote that her “insightful musings brim with quietly radical insight.” She contributed to Suleika Jaouad’s The Book of Alchemy and, in 2026, was recognized by Parents magazine as one of 100 parents who have “Redefined ‘Home’ for the Next Generation.”
Through The Mae House, a creative residency in upstate New York devoted to rest and reflection she continues to consider what stories make possible: the ways we care for one another, preserve what matters, and make a place.
