Storytelling Through The Seasons: Winter
Storytelling Through The Seasons: Winter
Join us for the return of the Storytelling Through The Seasons (early) winter cohort. In this group, we will embody the essence of winter as it begins. We will write, meditate, share, and be in community through this “time of water.” We will work to understand that this practice of quiet time is one of the most important aspects of not only transitioning through a season but living within one.
WHAT: Three weeks of writing to ground, collect, and be in the stillness of what is to help forge a quiet path forward.
As Emergence Magazine editors wrote, “It has always been a radical act to share stories during dark times” This workshop aims to create space for writers, nonwriters, journalers, and artists, all people who want to explore this deep and moving practice, while developing the tools to simply write by a writer for the writer in us all. We look back at our ancestral knowledge as guides as we stay present and burrow forward.
While the aim is to form a community, in this class we do work. We learn. We build.
Week One: Homegoings | Storytelling through collective grief to form an intentional way home to ourselves. (Prompts and Journaling)
Week Two: Style as a Story (part 2) | A look at personal style (in writing and in what we wear) to tell a story. (Prompts and Journaling)
Week Three: Collected Threads | Gathering select works of what we’ve written over the last few weeks to form one cohesive piece that will guide us forward.
WHO: Each workshop will be led by LaTonya Yvette, a three-times author, writer, community builder, and nurturer. The courses aim to build the practice of writing through tools LaTonya has successfully honed over the last 12 years. Each class will have a visitor, who will share a short lecture or reading that aligns with our cohort’s focus. We will use a chapter’s of LaTonya’s new book, Stand In My Window as part of our curriculum. If you do not have the book, the pages will be sent to you. This workshop is for everyone!
WHEN: 9:00 am—10:30 am EST Saturdays. On Zoom.
January 11th
January 18th
January 25th
Classes will be recorded and sent, along with all class materials, in a shared Google Drive, and there will be a Discord channel for the cohort to remain in communication.
Upon joining, you can inquire about an additional 30-minute one-on-one coaching session with me every week.
COST: $250 for three weeks. Space is very limited to honor one another and the time spent.
REGISTRATION CLOSES December 9th, 2024
While I can not accommodate scholarships for the workshop this season, please know that I wish to in future seasons.
“The course changed my life! I know that sounds a bit dramatic, but it really has shifted my perspective and reignited a creative practice which feels so needed 9 months after giving birth. Feels like a new birth :) Thanks again.” - NW
